He had a 90-point season as a 21-year-old, has an excellent shot, and great skating. While he dealt with injuries throughout last season, this will be a big year for him as he tries to cement himself as a player who can score closer to 90 points or more every year, rather than 70. After a very unnaturally slow start to the season, Alexander Ovechkin rebounded to score 30 goals again for the 18th time. There is no doubt that as it stands today, Ovechkin is the greatest goal-scorer in history, and he will challenge Wayne Gretzky’s goal record this season. He still has a phenomenal shot, but as he starts pushing 40 years old, he is becoming less effective in other aspects of his game.
Hutson confident ‘better years’ ahead for Canadiens, young defense corps
All of the concerns about Jakob Chychrun’s ability to stay healthy were put to bed last season when he played his first full season, playing in all 82 games. He did tie his career-high in points, but with a significant amount more games played than any other season, the Senators were hoping for a bit more out of him than that. Not only did he not have the offensive output they were hoping for, but his defensive game wasn’t as strong in Ottawa either. This will be a good skating team and they will play with aggression because they still have plenty of skill, but I’d hope that it isn’t as much of a defensive rollercoaster as it has been at times given the experience.
- Cutter Gauthier was the player whose draft stock rose the most following the 2022 NHL Draft Combine where NHL scouts and general managers were impressed by his maturity, physical strength.
- After a 67-point campaign last year, it will be intriguing to see how Marchand produces without his longtime center, Patrice Bergeron.
- It marked his sixth straight year topping the list, having overtaken Sidney Crosby in 2017 after the Penguins star had a seven-year run at No. 1.
- Some may be worried about his lack of production in the WHL, but anyone who saw Danielson play in the NHL Preseason last Fall should know he’s well on his way to becoming a high-end NHLer.
- He’s a massive power forward (6-foot-3, 205 pounds) who is incredibly quick and difficult to knock off the puck.
- He has made the move to North America and absolutely schooled the OHL last season with the Sudbury Wolves.
- He’ll surely be a fan favorite type in the NHL someday, likely as a middle-six winger or a bottom-six center.
Prospects #80-71
He’s also a wizard in the faceoff dot, clicking at just under 50 percent, but the Edmonton forward owns the second-most faceoff wins in the 2024 postseason. That’s not to knock his offensive skillset at all, as the Senators captain exploded for 35 goals and 83 points last season. He’s a pain to play against, which is what makes the big-bodied Tkachuk so effective.
NED v CHN – Women’s Gold Medal Match Hockey Olympic Games Paris 2024
Solberg doesn’t project to have a ton of NHL offense, but he can make a solid first pass and his mobility will help carry him to the next level. He wins tons of pucks with his stick and body, closing gaps confidently while defending in transition. Solberg has the potential to be a meaningful top-four defender in the NHL, complementing the offensive tilt of many of the Ducks’ young defenders. Liam Öhgren is a “jack of all trades, master of none” type of player who will excel in the NHL one day as a complementary winger. He is one of the hardest-working players on the ice every time he plays, and he can do just about anything asked of him. Öhgren has a great shot, good hands, legit playmaking skill, and the skating ability to put all those skills together.
Stanley Cup Final: Ranking the top 10 impact players in Panthers vs. Oilers
Over the last three years, Stamkos has been one of the top point producers and had drug his team into battle every night. The Stars have taken a lot of pride in their defensive game as an entire team, but the biggest anchor for their success https://gambibet.org/ comes from Miro Heiskanen. He is one of the best two-way defenders in the game and has had great offensive numbers over the past two seasons. A big step back in production last season prevented Tim Stutzle from being higher on this list.

He dominated that level this season, but we’ve seen him do that already so it’s no surprise. I’d really love to see him against pros full-time next season, hopefully in the KHL. The reason people are so high on Eiserman, is that he scored 72 goals in 69 games last season for the NTDP. While he may not be the most reliable player when it comes to play driving or defensive results, he is an incredibly reliable goal scorer and projects to be a 30+ goal scorer in the NHL someday. Pair him with your best playmaking center and watch him do the hardest thing there is in hockey, score goals.
Prospects #90-81
It marked his sixth straight year topping the list, having overtaken Sidney Crosby in 2017 after the Penguins star had a seven-year run at No. 1. By his own standards, it was a bit of a down year last season in both goals and points, which is saying something of its own considering he was seventh in points and 14th in goals league-wide. In its early form, field hockey was played on natural grass, but the heavy turf made the game slower. Speed, technical skills and fun are the main characteristics of hockey—an exciting and dynamic sport that requires endurance and great coordination. A hockey match consists of four periods of 15 minutes for a total match time of 60 minutes. Hockey takes its name from the French word “hocquet”, meaning a shepherd’s crook in reference to the curved shape of a hockey stick.
Quentin Musty, LW, San Jose Sharks
Anton Silayev was the story of the year early on last season, going from an unknown defender in Russia’s junior system last year to an elite defensive prospect who was tearing up the KHL. After scoring just 18 points with the Seattle Thunderbirds the season before, Iginla flourished with the Kelowna Rockets. His game relies heavily on speed and he’s able to do a ton of damage on the rush at the junior level because of it. Iginla has an excellent wrist shot as well, but he isn’t the most gifted playmaker or physical guy. Denton Mateychuk is a dynamic offensive defenseman who excels with the puck and can control the play from the point.
Prospects #20-11
Hyman has turned himself into a net-front menace, and that hasn’t changed in the playoffs, no matter how hard other teams have tried to neutralize him. Hyman leads all playoff performers with 14 goals, and the Panthers better have an answer for him in the low slot, especially when Edmonton is on the man advantage. Sergei Bobrovsky really thrived throughout the Panthers’ series win against the Rangers. Bobrosvsky yielded two or fewer goals in five of his six starts in that series and compiled a 2.00 goals-against-average even after surrendering five goals in Game 3 against New York. According to Money Puck, Bobrovsky has registered a .960 save percentage when facing unblocked shots throughout the postseason.
Fantasy & Games
This season, Clarke has been the best offensive defender in the entire AHL, earning himself a callup to the NHL in January. Clarke will likely never be the best defensive defender, but the amount of offense he provides will make that an afterthought for most of his NHL career. Gauthier has great size, skating, and has the effort and ability to become a great defensive forward. Axel Sandin Pellikka is a right-handed offensive defenseman who has been an offensive leader in the SHL as a teenager. Sandin Pellikka had a great showing for Sweden at the World Juniors in his draft year, improving his draft stock considerably.
- After two 40-goal seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, Alex DeBrincat has struggled to get back to that mark since being traded to the Senators and then the Red Wings.
- He has been a strong shut-down center for the club, and while his play has taken a step back over his massive $77 million deal, he is still a very valuable player.
- Dating back to last season, the Florida winger has displayed a knack for scoring in key moments and is a key reason for a number of Panthers wins.
- A very disappointing year by Tage Thompson’s standards didn’t stop voters by much on this one.
- There is so much potential for Cole Caufield to become one of the best goal-scorers in the NHL, and while he has yet to hit the 30-goal mark, he has a great release and plays well.
- The Penguins did well to land him in exchange for Yager, netting the better of the two prospects, though the gap isnt massive.
- But as a result, they still don’t have a very rich senior class and they didn’t pursue the portal to accent this group.
- After several years of having a gigantic talent advantage (especially at F) against nearly anyone they played, this Michigan team doesn’t have quite the same level of firepower.
- Jonathan Lekkerimäki had a really tough post-draft season, with multiple injuries/illnesses ruining any momentum he tried to build.
Matthews was just named the 26th captain in Maple Leafs history and was well-deserving of it. He is consistently scoring 40+ goals, and on a relatively weak offensive group on the Wild, all of the offense runs through him. Another outstanding season from Filip Forsberg, especially in the goal-scoring department, has helped him establish himself as a top winger in the league. He has two 40-goal seasons in the past three years and has been the top forward on the Predators as they come out of a quick re-tool. Since his outstanding rookie season, Mat Barzal hasn’t been able to get back to the 85-point mark, but last season he came pretty close. After a few years where fans were questioning if he would ever get back, Barzal had a great offensive season and put those doubts to shame.
NHL Rookies To Watch in 2024-25
He has been a strong shut-down center for the club, and while his play has taken a step back over his massive $77 million deal, he is still a very valuable player. He still has good offensive numbers, especially with the fact that he has three other forwards who can challenge for 100+ points annually. He had the captaincy moved from him to Auston Matthews, but he is still a very strong leader in the locker room and that will continue to be one of his biggest assets as well. Despite having his lowest point total of his career, Brett Pesce didn’t take any steps back in his all-around game last season. His defensive metrics, like Ekholm’s, were some of the best of his career, and that is what earned him a big contract with the New Jersey Devils. A lot of missed time last season resulted in what seemed like a quiet year from Shea Theodore, but in reality, he nearly broke his career-high in points in just a short amount of time.
The Kansas City Chiefs Need to Trade For Tyreek Hill to Save Their Season
McDavid can take over games and has fared well against even the toughest defensive matchups through the first three rounds. The Panthers will throw the kitchen sink at him, but McDavid is just operating on another level right now. Draisaitl could be the No. 1 guy on many teams around the NHL, but in Edmonton he has Connor McDavid as a teammate. Draisaitl gives the Oilers a truly elite finisher, both at five-on-five and on the power play. After notching 41 goals in the regular season, he has 10 goals this postseason, which is second in the NHL and would be first on the Panthers. What makes Draisaitl so key in this series is that, although he’s earned a reputation as a prolific goal-scorer, he’s no pushover in the physicality department.
An elusive skater with incredible hands to match, Huston is the definition of a puck, moving defenseman with elite offensive abilities. Lane will wow many fans this season with his vision and skill for the Montréal Canadiens. Skinner can be somewhat volatile between the pipes, and that has led to questions about which version of him will show up against Florida. Through the first two rounds of the playoffs, Skinner turned in a .881 save percentage and 5.43 goals allowed above average, according to Natural Stat Trick.
Last year, Hamilton proved to the Devils he was well worth the investment from the 2022 offseason. The New Jersey defenseman recorded 52 assists and 74 points during the Devils’ breakout season. He’s the No. 1 defenseman any contender needs, providing an offensive option as a right-handed blue liner. After winning it all with St. Louis in 2019, the defenseman brought Vegas its first championship in hockey. He’s a minute muncher who can provide 50 points from the back end while being a leader off the ice as well.
The veteran netminder also thrived during the regular season with a 2.37 goals-against-average and .915 save percentage. However, this is likely the most lethal offense that he has faced throughout the postseason. Considering Bobrovsky’s track record, it’s possible that Bobrovsky will be one of the top x-factors that will determine how this series plays out.
GER v NED – Men’s Gold Medal Match Hockey Olympic Games Paris 2024
He is the best player they have, one of the longest-tenured players with the Utah/Coyotes team, and provides great leadership. Keller has been scoring nearly a point per game over three seasons, during which time the Coyotes have struggled a lot. He has proven himself as one of the top-scoring wingers in the league and is starting to get recognition for it. They lost last year’s #2 goalscorer Ryan Kirwan to the transfer portal (ASU), and #3 goalscorer Jacques Bouquot graduated. PSU rolls over Aiden Fink, Matt DiMarsico, and Reese Laubach, all of whom were freshmen last year and they seem like a solid group to build a team around.
- The Panthers star can stickhandle at an elite level, and has scored six goals throughout the 2024 postseason, while also having no problem setting up his teammates along the way.
- He finished last season third in hits, fourth in shots, and second in penalty minutes.
- Felix Unger Sörum is already looking like a year out from the 2023 Draft where he was taken late in the second round by the Carolina Hurricanes.
- Athletes use a hook-shaped stick, with which they drive, control, and hit a hard ball.
- With two high-end center prospects in Celebrini and Will Smith both coming in at 6-feet tall, adding wingers with size has clearly been a priority for the Sharks.
He is great at finding open space off the puck and he rewards teammates for passing to him by charging the middle of the ice or ripping a puck mid-stride. Öhgren’s ability to out-work opponents stands out, even at the pro level, and should continue in the AHL next season. David Goyette is finally starting to earn some of the attention that I think he has deserved all along. He’s an excellent skater who doesn’t quit on the play which helps him win a lot of puck battles and races to pucks.
He is still a bit of a raw prospect at this point, which means there’s a lot of room for growth. Levshunov was a poor defender in the USHL when he first arrived, but finished that season as a strong two-way player. His first NCAA mirrored that closely, with an increased defensive responsibility as the year wore on. It looks like Levshunov is set to make the jump to the pros next season, and while his defensive game may not be great right off the bat, he’s shown himself to be a quick study.
Goyette reads opposing defenses very well which allows him to attack in a wide variety of ways. He can charge through soft spots, deke through defenders to make space, or draw tons of attention before passing to a teammate who is wide open. Goyette was one of the best players in the OHL last season and I think he has a chance to be an excellent pro player next season with the Firebirds in the AHL.
Also adding to the case file was that they seduced Matthew Wood, a former 1st round pick who has been a very strong collegiate performer, to transfer from UConn. With Snuggerud, Wood, and Oliver Moore up front, the Gophers boast three first round picks who have the ability to form what could be the conference’s best scoring line. Draisaitl trails only McDavid for the most points in the playoffs with 28 in 18 games. His 10 goals are tied for second out of all skaters, and his 14 power-play points rank first.
